...FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 815 AM CDT THIS MORNING...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is occurring.

* WHERE...Portions of northeast Illinois and northwestern Indiana,
including southern Cook and northwestern Lake counties.

* WHEN...Until 815 AM CDT.

* IMPACTS...Creeks and streams are out of their banks. Water is
likely ponding in farm fields and in low lying spots.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
- At 510 AM CDT, Automated river stream gauges indicated that
flooding is occurring due to rainfall from overnight.
- Rivers and creeks are expected to slowly fall this morning
before additional rain arrives this afternoon.
- Some locations that will experience flooding include...
Hammond, Gary, Tinley Park, Calumet City, Merrillville,
Chicago Heights, East Chicago, Schererville, Lansing, Oak
Forest, Harvey, Highland, Munster, Dolton, Park Forest,
Homewood, Matteson, Frankfort, Steger and South Holland.

A Flood Advisory means minor flooding along waterways and other poor
drainage areas is imminent or may already be occurring. Persons in
the advisory area should use caution and avoid flood waters.

* WHAT...For the Small Craft Advisory, northeast winds to 25 kt
today becoming northwest to 30 kt Tuesday night and significant
waves to 8 ft occasionally to 10 ft, largest Tuesday night,
expected. For the Gale Watch, northwest gales to 40 kt and
significant waves to 14 ft occasionally to 18 ft possible.

* WHERE...Winthrop Harbor to Calumet Harbor IL.

* WHEN...For the Small Craft Advisory, from 1 PM this afternoon
to 1 AM CDT Wednesday. For the Gale Watch, from late Tuesday
night through Thursday morning.

* IMPACTS...Strong winds can cause hazardous waves which could
capsize or damage vessels and reduce visibility.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Winds will be out of the northeast today
and tonight before turning northwest on Tuesday.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Mariners should consider altering plans to avoid possible
hazardous conditions.  Remain in port, seek safe harbor, alter
course, and/or secure the vessel for severe wind and waves.
